Maldives Journalist Association (MJA) strongly condemns the violent attack against a journalist of Maldives National Broadcasting Corporation (MNBC) and vandalizing the office of private broadcaster Dhitv on Monday night.

MNBC journalist Moosa Naushad was attacked near MNBC office, while covering the protests organised by the opposition parties and the ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP). He has sustained serious injuries, and was badly wounded. This is an inhuman attack, which may badly affect the media freedom.

We call on Human Rights Commission of Maldives and Police to investigate the attack against the journalist and vandalizing the office of Dhitv.

We also call on politicians not to victimize journalists to achieve political goals.
